The student chapter of the National Press Photographers Association at Southern Illinois University Carbondale held a photo summit today. It featured two guest lecturers, Scott Strazzante, and Robert Cohen.
Scott Strazzante is a press photojournalist for the Chicago Tribune, and has been named Illinois Press Photographer of the year eight times. His multimedia piece, Common Grounds, has been published by National Geographic, Mediastorm, Mother Jones, and The Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine. He’s also had the experience of photographing the Olympics three times, the Super Bowl, and the World Series.
Robert Cohen is a photojournalist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. His photos have been recognized by Pictures of the Year International, the National Headliner Awards, American Society of News Editors, and the National Press Photographers Association. Most recently, his work on suburban homelessness was named a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in feature photography.
Both lecturers gave great insight into the industry by discussing assignments and experiences throughout their careers, as well as the importance of ethics in photojournalism.
